Here are a few of the resources we've made use of this past year
As we visit with those men who are interested in becoming Christians or who simply wish to deepen their relationship with Jesus Christ, we often select books that are tailored to each man or small group. While books will vary, here are a few we have been using of late.
Jesus the King
By Tim Keller. This book is especially meahpful in explaining what a Christian actually is, and how, in the words of Keller, 'The gospel changes everything.' It is designed for those who are exploring Christianity as well as those who seek a deeper understanding of the implicaitons of knowing and following Christ.
God Behaving Badly
By David Lamb. This book is for those men who struggle with the reliability of the Old and New Testaments, due to passages in which God does, or says, things that are difficult to understand, if not if not offensive, to modern ears. Such passages can make it difficult for many to reconcile with His mercy and lovingkindness.
Live Not By Lies
By Rod Dreher. This book is designed for Protestant and Catholic men who embrace historic Christian orthodoxy. Such men are keenly aware that we are 'not in Kansas, anymore.' They seek to be faithful to their Savior even as the cost of identifying with Him and affirming Christian moral instruction could cost them socially, financially, vocationally and perhaps even legally. vocationally.
When God Interrupts
By M Craig Barnes. This book has been helpful to those men who are trying to reconcile the goodness of God with the season of loss or hardship that they are going through, or have gone through earlier in life.
